Women's Golf Wraps Up Action At MSU Mary Fossum Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team officially opened its 2012-13 season by stepping up in competition at the annual Michigan State Mary Fossum Invitational held on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 15-16) in East Lansing, Mich.

The Bulldogs came in 17th overall as the only non-Division I school in the field at Forest Akers West Golf Course, which measured 6,348 yards as a par 72 course.

FSU posted rounds of 323, 328 and 330 to finish with a team total of 981 (+117) in the three-round event.  Purdue captured the team championship with a 875 (+11) total followed by host MSU at 882 (+18) and Notre Dame at 887 (+23) in the top three overall.

The field also included other large schools such as Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Miami, Kent State, Western Michigan and more.

Junior Emily Rohdy and freshman Cooper Shawen both posted totals of 245 and tied for 74th place in leading the Bulldogs.  Rohdy carded rounds of 81, 82 and 82 while Shawen posted totals of 80, 80 and 85 over the three rounds.

They were followed by Ashley Swanson in a tie for 79th place at 247 as she tallied scores of 78, 84 and 85.  Freshman Libby Berens was behind her in 85th place with a 250 figure, which came as a result of carding marks of 85, 87 and 78.

Finally, FSU junior Jacqueline DeBoer shot a 251 total and placed tied for 86th with scores of 84, 82 and 85.

The individual winner was Texas State's Krista Puisite, who fired a final round total of 73 to win the event with a 215 figure over the three rounds at one-under par.

The Bulldogs are back in action next weekend (Sept. 22-23) at the Michigan Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.
