Ferris State Women's Golf Finishes 8th In Largely Division I Field At IPFW

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team came in eighth overall and finished in front of a pair of NCAA Division I teams at the Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne Spring Classic, which wrapped up on Monday (April 6) at Pine Valley Country Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Bulldogs, who were one of only two Division II schools in the field, shot a 326 score in Monday's final 18 holes of action after opening the event with a 344 total to finish at 670 for the two days of competition.

FSU was led by sophomore Kelsey McKinley, who shared 32nd place overall with a 163 total. She posted an 81 in the first round and an 82 in the second round in leading the Bulldogs.

Sophomore Claire Jansa placed tied for 38th in the field at 166 on rounds of 84 and 82 while sophomore Jordan Duvall came in tied for 43rd at 168. After shooting a 90 in the first round, Duvall came back with FSU's lowest round of the tournament by firing a 78 on Monday.

Freshman Gianna Dela Cruz placed 51st at 173 on rounds of 89 and 84 with junior Olivia Pizii coming in 60th at 182. She shot 94 and 88 over the two rounds, respectively.

FSU junior Kathleen Koomen also competed as an individual and shared 55th place with a 178 score on rounds of 94 and 84 in the tournament.

Indianapolis shot a two-round 600 team score in winning the field with Youngstown State second (616) and Oakland third (617). FSU finished ahead of Division I members Wisconsin-Green Bay and the IPFW "B" team.

Ferris State is back in action this weekend on April 12-13 as the Bulldogs travel to the Tiffin Invitational in Tiffin, Ohio.
