Women's Golf Opens GLIAC Championships In Sixth Place After First Round

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team concluded first-round action at the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in sixth place on Friday (April 22) at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale.

FSU carded a first-round 329 team score in the 54-hole event on the Grand Valley State campus course measuring 6,065 yards.

Host GVSU shot an opening day 292 score and holds the lead after the first 18 holes of competition followed by Findlay (303) and Ashland (310) in the top three overall of 12 competing schools.

Junior Kelsey McKinley led the Bulldogs in round one by shooting a 79, which is good for a share of 14th place overall in the individual field. 

Freshman Destiny Lawson also ranks among the top 20 golfers following day one play as she came in tied for 20th with an 81 in the first round.

FSU senior Libby Berens is tied for 32nd overall with an 84 score while junior Jordan Duvall and sophomore Morgan Zloto both shot identical 85 scores in the first round and are tied for 37th following first day action.

Action continues on Saturday (April 23) with the final round set for Sunday (April 24) at The Meadows, which is a par 72 course.

Ashland, Ferris State, Findlay, Grand Valley State, Lake Superior State, Malone, Northern Michigan, Northwood, Ohio Dominican, Tiffin, Walsh and Wayne State are all competing in the event.

Following the GLIAC Championships, official participants for the NCAA Division II Championships will be announced via ncaa.com next week with the NCAA-II East Regional set for May 2-4 in Springfield, Ill.
