Ferris State Women's Golf Fifth After First Day Action At Bulldog Fall Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team carded a 317 team score on Sunday (Sept. 26) in the opening round of the school's annual Bulldog Fall Invite held at FSU's Katke Golf Course.

Ferris State currently sits in fifth place following the opening 18 holes of action with the final round set for Monday in Big Rapids. 

Overall, Grand Valley State shot a 300 score and is first overall on the par 72 course, which measured 5,911 yards in the first round. Findlay sits second overall at 301 with both Wayne State and Lewis tied for third place at 316, which is only a stroke in front of the Bulldogs. A total of 12 schools are taking part in the event.

FSU was led by both Dani Staskowski and Abby Grevel as both are tied for 13th overall after shooting 78's in the opening round. 

The Bulldogs' Alayna Eldred carded a 79  in round one and is tied for 18th in the field with Hope Thebo tied for 40th with an 82 and Lauren Kempf tied for 49th following her opening-round 84 total.

Ferris State's Juanita De La Cruz also is competing as an individual and shot a 97 on Sunday, sitting in 71st place overall.

The overall individual leader following the opening round is Findlay's Jill Schmitmeyer, who carded a two-under par 70 in round one.

Action resumes on Monday with tee times starting at 9:30 a.m. (ET) at Katke Golf Course.
