Ferris State Makes Dramatic Climb Up Leaderboard On Final Day To Finish 5th At Gilda's Club Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team made a dramatic climb up the leaderboard on Monday (Sept. 26) to finish tied for fifth overall at the Gilda's Club Laker Invitational in Allendale.

FSU moved up five spots over the final round to finish the two-round event with a 634 score or +58 for the 36 holes of competition.

Ferris State entered the final round in 10th place among the 15 competing teams, but shot one of the three lowest scors of the day to move up.

The event on the par 72 layout at The Meadows Golf Course was won by Findlay with a 607 (+31) figure. The Oilers finished 10 shots ahead of runner-up and host Grand Valley State (617) with Tiffin third (619) and Walsh fourth (631) in front of both FSU and Saginaw Valley State.

The Bulldogs were led by Dani Staskowski with a 151 figure as she finished sixth overall. After carding a 77 in round one, she shot a two-over 74 over the final 18 holes.

FSU's Kamryn Shannon carded a 78 in the last round and placed tied for 26th overall with a 160 total following her first-round 82 mark.

Ferrris State's Elaina DeRose carded a 161 over the 36 holes to come in tied for 34th after notching an 80 on the heels of an 81 in round one.

Meanwhile, Alayna Eldred tied for 38th overall at 162 on identical rounds of 81 while Abby Grevel rounded out the FSU lineup in a share of 49th place at 166. She also shot an 81 in the final round after posting a first-round 85 score.

The Bulldogs also had two players compete individually in the event. Susie Gietl shot a 160 score to place tied for 26th overall with figures of 79 in round one and 91 in the final round. FSU's Lauren Kempf placed tied for 43rd in the field at 164, shooting an 86 in the last round after a first-round 78.

Ferris State will be back in action on Oct. 3-4 at the Bing Beall Fall Classic hosted by the University of Findlay (Ohio).
