Ferris State Women's Golf Wins Team Championship At Panther Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team closed out the fall campaign in style as the Bulldogs claimed first place at the Panther Invitational, which concluded on Sunday (Oct. 16) at the Stonehedge Golf Club in Augusta, Mich.

The Bulldogs held the lead going into the final round after shooting a 302 score on Saturday and maintained the advantage with a 303 figure in the final round on Sunday, coming in at 605 or +29 for the 36 holes.

FSU posted a four-shot win over runner-up Wayne State as the Warriors netted the tourney's low score with a 299 figure on Sunday, but finished at +33 or 609 overall in the nine-team field. The event was contested on Stonehedge Golf Club's North Course, a par 72 layout totaling 5,829 yards.

Ferris State was led by Kamryn Shannon, who came in tied for third in the field with a 149 total for the two rounds. She shot a 77 in round two after an even-par 72 in round one and was only two strokes behind individual medalist Mandy Ehrlich of Saginaw Valley State (147).

The Bulldogs' Alayna Eldred placed sixth overall with a 150 stroke total, carding an even-par 72 in the final round to go with a 78 in round one.

Eldred finished a single shot ahead of teammate Dani Staskowski as she placed seventh at 151 overall. Staskowski shot a 73 in round one and a 78 in the second round.

Meanwhile, Elaina DeRose finished tied for eighth for FSU with a 155 figure on rounds of 79 Saturday and 76 on Sunday.

Finally, Abby Grevel notched an 81 over the final 18 holes on Sunday to place tied for 28th with a 166 score. She had shot an 85 in the opening round.

Ferris State's Lauren Kempf also competed in the event as an individual and wound up tied for 49th in the field with a score of 179 for the two rounds. She carded a first-round 85 and a second-round 94 figure.

The championship wrapped up the fall campaign for the Bulldog women's golf team, which will continue its 2022-23 season as play resumes in the spring.

The Bulldog women joined the Ferris State men's golf team in winning the Panther Invitational this weekend as FSU completed the sweep of the two events.
