Bulldog Women's Golf Sits Third Overall After Day One At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team, which is the defending Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Champion, started strong on Friday (April 19) in round one play at the 2024 GLIAC Championships in Augusta, Mich.

The Bulldogs shot a first-round 310 team score and sit third overall in the eight-team field at the Stonehedge Golf Club's North Course, which measured in at 5,829 total yards on a par 72 layout.

Ferris State's 310 score in the opening 18 holes of action scored at +22 overall and the Bulldogs are only 10 strokes behind day one leader Davenport, which shot a 12-over par 300 figure. Grand Valley State was second at +22 (304).

Overall, the Bulldogs are two strokes ahead of fourth-place Saginaw Valley State (+24) and three strokes ahead of fifth-place Wayne State (+25) in the field.

The top four teams following round two play on Saturday (April 20) will advance to the head-to-head medal play semifinals beginning on Saturday afternoon. The championship match is slated for Sunday (April 21) in Augusta.

FSU's Kamryn Shannon shot a 76 in the first round and is tied for seventh overall while Lizzie Anderson notched a 77 and is tied for 12th in the field. The Bulldogs' Dani Staskowski fired a 78 and is tied for 17th with Hallie Crozier tied for 21st with a 79 score. Finally, FSU's Taylor Musselman recorded a 83 in round one and is tied for 28th overall.

The 2024 GLIAC Championships continue the format established four years ago with each league school competing in 36 holes of stroke play. The low four of five scores will count towards the respective team score for each squad.

Following round two, the top four teams will advance to head-to-head medal play on Saturday with a bracket format similar to the current format utilized at the NCAA Championships. The two winning teams following semifinal-round play will advance to the finals set for Sunday in which a GLIAC Champion will be crowned.
