FSU Women's Tennis Drops Road Match
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis
team opened its annual spring trip with a 5-1 setback in non-league
play at NCAA Division I Missouri-Kansas City on Tuesday (March 9)
afternoon in North Kansas City, Mo.
The Bulldogs fell to 10-7 overall this campaign with the loss
while the Kangaroos improved to 2-7 on the season in the win at the
Northland Racquet Club.
In the win, UMKC freshman Laura Bouet tied a school single-season win record by recording her 10th victory of the campaign in a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at the second flight over FSU's Tiffany Rheynard.
In the other singles matches, Missouri Kansas City's Eva Dalvai battled back from a set down to defeat FSU's Amy Ingle, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8, at the top flight while Suzan Lisenby beat the Bulldogs' Melissa Flowers, 6-5, 6-4 in fourth singles competition. Jillian Yakominich took her match from Ferris' number five player Natalie Diorio by a 7-6, 6-1 count.
In the sixth singles flight, UMKC's Holly Davis won the first
set of her match against Daniela Dimas, 6-3, and
was down in the second set, 2-3, before the match was called due to
time.
Ferris' lone win of the day came at the number three flight where
Bulldog freshman Tabitha Simpson topped Chelsea
Horner 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles action, all three Kangaroo teams picked up wins to
give UMKC the doubles point as the tandem round counted as only a
single point in the final team score per NCAA Division I
regulations. Dalvai and Horner beat Ingle and Rheynard, 8-5,
at the top flight while Lisenby and Bouet defeated Diorio and FSU's
Mary Coleman at number two, 8-0. In number
three doubles play, Jessica Ball and Yakominich downed Ferris'
Flowers and Dimas, 8-6.
The Bulldog women's tennis team continues its four-match swing to
Missouri and Kansas by visiting Northwest Missouri State on
Wednesday (March 10) for a 2 p.m. (EST) non-league tilt in
Marysville, Mo.
