Women's Tennis Stops Skid With Road Win
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis
team rolled to a 5-1 win over Southwest Baptist (Mo.) on Thursday
(March 11) afternoon.
The match was originally slated to be played on the Bearcats' home
courts before rain forced it to be moved to Springfield's (Mo.)
Cooper Tennis Complex on the indoor surface.
Eventually, the match was called due to time once FSU picked up
its fifth point to seal the victory and the final three singles
flights were not played.
The Bulldogs snapped a three-match losing streak with the
non-league victory and improved to 11-8 overall this
campaign. Meanwhile, Southwest Baptist fell to 2-2 overall on
the year.
The Bearcats' lone win came in number two doubles play where
Johanna Olsson and Sarah Sentlinger topped FSU's Natalie
Diorio and Mary Coleman by an 8-5
count.
Ferris State claimed both the first and third doubles positions
with the tandem of Amy Ingle and Tiffany
Rheynard notching a convincing 8-3 win at the top spot
while Melissa Flowers and Daniela
Dimas were 8-1 winners at the third flight.
In singles action, the Bulldogs took all three completed flights
in straight-sets as Ingle (#1), Rheynard (#2) and Tabitha
Simpson (#3) all picked up victories.
The Bulldogs will play their final spring break road trip match on
Friday (March 12) at Washburn (Kan.) with match time set for 10
a.m. (EST) in Topeka, Kan. The match is also the final
scheduled regular-season dual for the Bulldog women's team this
spring.
