FSU Tennis Award Winners Announced

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis teams recently announced their 2010-11 season award recipients in an announcement made by head coach Alex Palladino.

Senior Alina Stanila (Alexandria, Romania) of the women's squad and sophomore Tyler Marengo (Port Huron/Northern) of the men's team were chosen as the team Most Valuable Player Award recipients.

Stanila recorded an impressive 22-1 overall record this past campaign in singles action at the number one flight, including a 11-0 record in conference action.  She also netted a 20-4 overall mark at the second doubles flight.

Marengo tallied a team-leading 17-2 ledger in singles action and won eight of his nine league encounters. He also registered a 15-5 record at the second doubles position in the FSU lineup.

Team Dedication Awards were given to senior Amy Ingle (Battle Creek/Hastings) on the women's side along with junior Jack Swan (Milwaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) in men's competition.

Finally, seniors Tiffany Rheynard (Kalamazoo/Gull Lake) and Steve Roberts (San Jose, Calif./Del Mar) were tabbed as Sportsmanship Winners on the women's and men's sides, respectively.

The Bulldog men's tennis team finished with a 14-8 overall record this year and won seven of nine league outings.  They placed third in the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament in Midland (Mich.).

Meanwhile, the women's team posted a 20-5 overall record and reached the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament.  Overall, FSU's 20 victories this campaign tied for the fourth-most seasonal wins in Bulldog women's tennis history and were the most since winning 22 matches in the 2000-01 campaign.
