Women's Tennis Upsets Ashland To Reach GLIAC Semifinals
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team scored a 5-4 upset over Ashland to advance to the semifinals of the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament on Friday night (Oct. 26) at the Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
FSU led 2-1 after the doubles round and then split the six singles flights to take the win.
With the victory, the Bulldogs avenged an earlier 6-3 setback to the Eagles in GLIAC regular-season play this year in Big Rapids. Ferris State will next face top-seeded Northwood in the semifinals.
FSU was the fifth overall seed in the eight-team field heading into Friday's opener while Ashland was seeded fourth in the draw. The two teams squared off in the opening round for the second-straight year.
The second round of the tournament will be on Saturday (Oct. 27) at 3:45 p.m. (ET) with the final round of play set for Sunday (Oct. 28) starting at 9:30 a.m. (ET).
The Bulldogs improved to 11-5 overall this season with the victory.
