Women's Tennis Suffers First Loss Of The Season To Conclude Weekend Trip
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team was handed its first loss of the 2013-14 campaign on Sunday (Sept. 8) as the Bulldogs wrapped up a weekend road trip to Ohio by falling to Walsh in close fashion 5-4 at Canton, Ohio.
Walsh won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest by jumping out to a 2-1 lead following doubles play and then capturing three of the top four spots in the singles lineup.
With the loss at the Klekotka Tennis Complex, Ferris State dropped to 2-1 overall and in league action this year.
The Bulldogs received singles wins from Gabrielle Demchenko at the third flight along with Julie Fusik and Jessica Wilcox at the fifth and sixth positions, respectively. Meanwhile, Demchenko and Sydney Berens were winners by an 8-4 score at third doubles.
Walsh improved to 1-2 overall this year with the victory.
Ferris State will be back in action this week as FSU returns home for three conference matches. The Bulldogs host Wayne State on Friday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. (ET) inside the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center before battling Hillsdale on Saturday (Sept. 14) and Findlay on Sunday (Sept. 15).
