Host Southern Indiana Tops Bulldogs In Non-League Women's Tennis Encounter
Big Rapids, Mich. - Host Southern Indiana jumped out to an early edge en route to a 6-3 non-league victory over the Ferris State University women's tennis team late Saturday (March 1) night in Evansville, Ind.
The Screaming Eagles picked up wins in two of the three doubles contests to build a 2-1 lead heading into the singles round where they were able to seal the win by taking the bottom four flights in the lineup.
Ferris State's lone doubles victory came from the tandem of Janie Sell and Sydney Berens at the number two flight by an 8-6 score.
In singles play, FSU's Ana Jan was a straight-set winner at the top flight by a 6-0, 6-0 score while freshman Gabrielle Demchenko picked up a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at the second position.
FSU fell to 8-12 overall this season with the setback while the Screaming Eagles moved to 3-5 on the year.
The Bulldogs continue their weekend trip with a visit to Indianapolis on Sunday (March 2) for a 1 p.m. (ET) encounter in Indianapolis, Ind.
