Ferris State Tennis Teams Suffer Setbacks To Ranked Georgia College Teams
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis teams came out on the short end of road decisions against Georgia College on Friday (March 14) as both squads continued spring action.
The nationally 37th-ranked Bulldog men's team fell to #18 Georgia College by a 8-1 score while the women's team dropped a 9-0 decision versus the 27th-ranked Bobcats at the Centennial Center Tennis facility.
On the men's side, the Bobcats took a 2-1 lead into singles play after capturing wins at both the first and third doubles spots by identical 8-3 scores. FSU's lone victory came at two doubles where Otto Keresztes and Will Huntington teamed up for an 8-4 triumph.
In singles play, the Bobcats swept all six flights, including a trio of third-set tiebreakers at the first, fourth and fifth positions. The Bobcasts' men's squad improved to 7-2 with the win over the Bulldogs, who dropped to 2-10 on the year.
Meanwhile, in women's action, the Bobcats posted a shutout win over FSU and won five straight-set singles matches in the process. They swept the doubles round to build a decisive advantage heading into singles play and closed out the Bulldogs by winning all six flights in individual action.
Georgia College improved to 7-3 on the year with the Bulldogs falling to 8-17 overall in women's competition.
The Ferris State men's squad will close out FSU's action on its annual spring break trip by visiting North Georgia on Saturday (March 15) for a 11 a.m. (ET) encounter. FSU then returns to Michigan to resume GLIAC play at Lake Superior State on March 22.
The women's team will hit the court again with a non-league home tilt versus Aquinas on Tuesday (March 18) starting at 2 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.
