FSU Women's Tennis Remains Unbeaten With Convincing Home Victory Sunday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad remained unbeaten as the Bulldogs won their second match in as many days with a 7-2 win over Michigan Tech on Sunday (Sept. 7) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs, who beat Lake Superior State by a 9-0 score in their season opener late Saturday, topped the Huskies in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play to move to 2-0 overall this campaign.

FSU jumped out to a 2-1 edge following the doubles round with wins at the number two and three flights by scores of 8-2 and 8-3, respectively. Michigan Tech's lone win in doubles play came at the top flight where they recorded a close 9-8 victory.

However, the Bulldogs took five of the six singles flights in straight-sets to earn the win despite the fact the bottom half of the lineup had to be adjusted due to an injury. The Huskies grabbed the number one flight, but FSU received wins from Noelly Longi Nsimba, Matilda Ackered, Olga Martinsone, Arien Kissinger and Janie Sell to sweep the second thru sixth flights.

The Huskies fell to 0-2 overall with the setback.

Ferris State wraps up its season-opening three-match homestand against Aquinas on Tuesday (Sept. 9) with match time set for 3 p.m. (ET) at the Racquet and Fitness Center. FSU then resumes GLIAC action on Sept. 14 at Saginaw Valley State.
