Bulldog Women's Tennis Opens Homestand With Victory Over Walsh

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad opened a four-match homestand with a close 5-4 win over visiting Walsh on Thursday (Oct. 9) in afternoon action at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.

The host Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead following the doubles round, but had to hold off a late comeback effort by the Cavaliers, who captured four of the six singles flights.

Ferris State won all three doubles flights in convincing fashion by scores of 8-3, 8-1 and 8-4 at the first, second and third spots in the lineup, respectively. But, Walsh claimed wins at the first and third singles flights along with the bottom two spots to pull close in the match.

For the Bulldogs, both Noelly Longi Nsimba and Olga Martinsone were double winners on the day. They teamed up for an 8-3 decision at the number one doubles spot and Nsimba captured a three-set victory at second singles with Martinsone winning in straight-sets at the fourth position.
