Bulldog Women's Tennis Clinches GLIAC Tourney Spot Despite Friday Setback

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team wrapped up league regular-season action with a 6-3 home setback to West Michigan rival Grand Valley State on Friday (Oct. 17) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.

Despite the setback, the Bulldogs have officially clinched a spot in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament, which takes place next Friday thru Sunday (Oct. 24-26) at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

In Friday's tilt against the Lakers, FSU took the number one doubles flight and the top two singles positions, but Grand Valley State's strength further down the lineup enabled the Lakers to record the win.

GVSU built at 2-1 lead after doubles play by winning the second and third flights and the Lakers then swept the third thru sixth singles spots in the lineup, which included winning a pair of key three-setters at the number three and four flights.

Ferris State dropped to 8-5 overall and closed GLIAC regular-season play with a 7-5 conference mark while the Lakers improved to 10-1 both overall and in league action this season.

Complete pairings and match times for the GLIAC Tournament will be announced soon by the conference office.
