Ferris State Women's Tennis Completes Regular-Season With Win In Regional Showdown

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team rolled to a decisive 6-2 regional victory over Lewis (Ill.) University in its final regular-season match of the 2014-15 campaign on Thursday (April 2) in Plainfield, Ill.

The victory, which was FSU's fourth-straight and sixth in its last seven contests this spring, came at the Five Star Tennis Center. The match was played indoors and featured only five singles matches as the two teams did not compete at the sixth flight.

The win was Ferris State's 19th of the year as the Bulldogs improved to 19-8 overall. The triumph should also have significant postseason implications as FSU entered the contest ranked seventh in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Region with Lewis eighth.

The Bulldogs started strong by winning two of the three doubles flights. FSU captured wins at the first and third spots in the lineup with the Flyers managing to pull out an 8-2 victory at the second position.

However, in singles competition, the Bulldogs sealed the victory as Ferris State took four of the five matches that were contested. Lewis' Megan Nguyen won a three-setter at the second flight, but FSU matched with a three-set win at the third flight and also recorded straight-set triumphs at the first, fourth and fifth positions.

The Flyers fell to 7-5 overall this year with the setback.

Ferris State will now await the official NCAA Division II Tournament selections, which will be announced later this month. The NCAA Midwest Regional competition will be contested in early May with official dates to be announced.
