Bulldog Women's Tennis Suffers First Loss Of Spring In Close Fashion

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad suffered its first setback of the spring as the Bulldogs dropped a close 5-4 decision against the Lewis (Ill.) Flyers in a regional contest on Sunday (Feb. 21) inside FSU's Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs, who were coming off a spring-opening 9-0 home shutout against Salem International on Friday (Feb. 19), fell to 11-5 overall this campaign. The loss snapped a three-match FSU win streak dating back to last fall's conference tournament.

In Sunday's tight contest, the Flyers jumped out to a 2-1 lead in doubles play by taking identical 8-5 wins at both the first and second flights in the lineup. FSU's Janie Sell and Sydney Berens teamed up for an 8-1 win at the third position.

The two teams ended up splitting the singles round as each squad picked up three victories. The Flyers captured the top three flights, including a key three-setter at the top spot, with FSU sweeping the bottom three positions in the lineup.

Ferris State will play a pair of home contests next weekend in Big Rapids as FSU hosts Southern Indiana in regional action on Saturday (Feb. 27) before facing West Michigan foe Aquinas on Sunday (Feb. 28).

Saturday's match will begin at 3 p.m. (ET) for the women with Sunday's tilt starting an hour earlier at 2 p.m. (ET).
