Bulldog Women's Tennis Wraps Up Fall Season On Final Day At GLIAC Tournament

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad wrapped up its fall season as the Bulldogs fell to Grand Valley State 5-0 in the third place match at the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament in Midland.

The Bulldogs, who were seeded fourth overall entering the event, fell to the third-seeded Lakers to finish the fall campaign with an 8-6 overall record.

Ferris State had beat fifth-seeded Saginaw Valley State on Friday night in round one before falling to top-seeded and eventual champion Northwood in Saturday's semifinals.

In the setback to the Lakers, GVSU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles round. The Lakers then captured straight-set wins at the second and sixth flights in the lineup to seal the triumph over Ferris State with the other four singles flights going unfinished.

The tournament and Sunday's encounter marked the final match for the Bulldogs under head coach Chad Berryhill, who will depart for a new opportunity in Florida.

Ferris State will return to the court in the spring with the first scheduled match a non-league tilt versus Aquinas on Sunday, Feb. 26, in Grand Rapids. Current assistant coach Danny Hunt will serve as the Bulldogs' interim head coach during the spring season.
