Ferris State Women's Tennis Beats Davenport To Stay Unbeaten
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad stayed unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Sunday (Oct. 1) as the Bulldogs beat Davenport 7-2 in league play at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia.
The Bulldogs, who topped Purdue Northwest in their first league outing on Saturday, took advantage of a depleted Panther lineup in earning the road victory.
Ferris State took a 2-1 lead into the singles round as the Bulldogs picked up a win from Nicole Meylor and Lauren Lomax at two doubles along with a default triumph at the third flight.
In singles action, FSU earned wins from Silvia Verebes at the second spot in the lineup along with Meylor at three singles and Lomax at the fourth flight. In addition, Ferris State also picked up default victories at the fifth and sixth positions to claim five of the six singles points.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 2-0 overall and in the GLIAC to date this year.
Ferris State returns home to begin a three-match league homestand this coming week. FSU entertains West Michigan rival Grand Valley State in the home opener on Wednesday (Oct. 4) starting at 4 p.m. (ET).
Following Wednesday's match with the Lakers, FSU then hosts Michigan Tech on Saturday (Oct. 7) and Lake Superior State on Sunday (Oct. 8) with both league encounters set for 10 a.m. (ET) starts at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.
