Ferris State Women's Tennis Lands In-State Prep Standout
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad has announced the addition of Michigan prep standout Sophia Daavettila (Williamston), who inked with FSU as the National Signing period opened this past week.
Daavettila will join the Bulldogs as a freshman next fall following a standout prep career at Williamston High School where the four-star rated performer has been ranked as one of the state's top two seniors in the Class of 2020.
"I'm extremely excited to be getting such a great player and a great person," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "Sophie will be an outstanding addition to our already improving team.
"I am most impressed with her intelligence on the court," he added. "Sophie understands what is going on at all times and how to adjust her game to come out on top."
Daavettila is one of three sisters who are all nationally-ranked tennis players and coached by their mother. She plans to study Professional Tennis Management at Ferris State.
Ferris State wrapped up the fall season in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) with a 6-3 overall mark while placing fourth in conference action during the regular-season. The Bulldogs picked up two more conference wins this fall over a year ago and the fourth-place GLIAC finish was the program's best since 2016.
Ferris State will open the spring season in February.
