Bulldogs Edged In Home Match By Hillsdale College
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team fell 4-3 to the Hillsdale College Chargers on Saturday (Feb. 29) inside the Ferris State Racquet Center in non-conference action.
Ferris State picked up wins at one and five singles, when sophomore Isabela Paixio defeated Hillsdale's Hanna Cimpeanu 6-1, 6-2, and Patricia Martin Gomez battled to a five-singles win (6-2, 1-6, 6-2) over Hillsdale's Canela Luna.
The Bulldogs also won the doubles point, as the one doubles pair of Paixio and sophomore Agata Klak won a tight match over Hillsdale's Cimpeanu and Sarah Hackman 7-6, while two-doubles team of sophomore Sam Stephenson and freshman Morgan Waller rolled past Katie Bell and Ellie Chawner 6-1.
Hillsdale won four of the six singles matches to take the match 4-3. HC's Hackman required three sets to defeat Klak (2-6, 6-1, 6-2), as did Kamryn Matthews over Brittany Lavenent (6-7, 6-4, 7-6). Katie Bell defeated Ferris State's Waller 6-1, 7-6, while Sophia Spinazze picked up the six-singles win over Stephenson 6-3, 6-4.
The Bulldogs are off until they make the long trip south to Florida to take on the Lynn Fighting Knights in Winter Park on Monday (March 9) at 1 pm ET.
