Two Ferris State Tennis Standouts Recent GLIAC Player Of Week Honorees

Big Rapids, Mich. - Two Ferris State University women's tennis standouts have recently earned distinction as Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Players of the Week.

FSU's Sophie Daavettila claimed this week's GLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honor while Morgan Waller was the receipient last week for the Bulldogs.

Daavettila led the Bulldogs to a pair of big wins last week. The Bulldog standout helped FSU to a 4-3 regional win over Southwest Baptist on Wednesday (March 27) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center, earning a straight-set win at two singles following a close 7-6 (8-6) setback in doubles play at the two flight. Meanwhile, on Saturday (March 30), she came back to help key FSU's 4-3 GLIAC win over archrival Grand Valley State at home, scoring a big win at the second singles flight by a 7-6 (7-0) and 6-4 score. She finished the week with a 2-0 singles mark as the Bulldogs stretched their winning streak to five consecutive matches and stayed unbeaten in the GLIAC at 3-0 on the year.

Waller led the Bulldogs to a pair of wins in their first two GLIAC matches of the season two weeks ago as FSU topped both Davenport and Purdue Northwest in road action. Waller earned a straight-set win at the top singles flight in FSU's narrow 4-3 win over DU and she also teamed up with Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer for a 6-4 doubles victory at the number one position in the lineup. The duo came back for a 6-2 triumph at one doubles and Waller was a three-set winner at one singles in FSU's 5-2 road win at PNW. For the week, she went 4-0 for the Bulldogs in singles and doubles play combined.

The Ferris State women's team returns to competition on Saturday, April 13, facing Saginaw Valley State at home beginning at 12 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.
