Ferris State Women's Tennis Earns Impressive Conference Home Win Over SVSU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad pulled out another big win on Saturday (April 13), staying unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a 5-2 home win over Saginaw Valley State.

The Bulldogs took the league encounter inside the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center to improve to 10-7 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

The win was FSU's sixth-straight to date this season.

"It was another great day on the court for the Bulldogs," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "This is our third-straight conference match where we've beat a team that beat us last year.

"Major props go out to our three and four singles for getting our team off to a hot start, which helped raise the level on the rest of the courts," he added.

The Bulldogs captured wins at one and three doubles for the first point in the match and came back in singles competition to win at the two, three and four flights.

In singles play, the Bulldogs got wins from Sophie Daavetilla at two singles, Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer at three singles and Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer at four singles. All came in straight-sets.

Ferris State will take on Wayne State in a GLIAC showdown on Sunday (April 14) in Detroit beginning at 10 a.m. (ET) for the men and 2 p.m. (ET) for the women. The two women's squads are both 4-0 atop the GLIAC while both men's teams own 3-0 league records and also lead the conference.
