Ferris State Women's Tennis Falls To #23 Wayne State In League First-Place Tilt

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad came out on the short end of a 6-1 decision at Wayne State on Sunday (April 14) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play in Detroit.

The host Warriors won the league showdown at the WSU Tennis Courts to move to the top of the conference standings. WSU now sits one match in front of FSU, which fell to 10-8 overall and 4-1 in the GLIAC.

With the win, the Warriors moved to 14-5 overall and 5-0 in league play. Wayne State is ranked 23rd in the country.

The Warriors captured the doubles points by taking all three flights and then topped FSU in five of the six singles spots.

The Bulldogs got a win from Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer in three sets at three singles. Ferris State's Morgan Waller also battled to a three-set setback at the number one singles flight.

Ferris State had won six consecutive matches this year prior to the setback.

The Bulldogs will look to bounce back at home next week as FSU wraps up conference regular-season play at the Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids versus Michigan Tech on Friday (April 19) and Lake Superior State on Saturday (April 20). Both matches are slated for 10 a.m. (ET) starts.
