2010-11 Track & Field Award Winners Named

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field program has recognized six different student-athletes as team award honorees for the 2010-11 athletics season. The announcement was made by third-year head coach Steve Picucci.

Included among the six team award honorees were both three male and female recipients. The track and field program presented both a Most Valuable Performer Award for the respective events on the track and in the field along with a Bulldog Award for both the men and women.

Freshman Samantha Johnson claimed team MVP Award laurels in the track/running events for the Bulldog women's team with freshman Jessica Pilling earning the same recognition in the field events area.  The women's Bulldog Award was presented to fsophomore Alyssa Osika for her efforts this campaign.

Meanwhile, the men's track MVP honor went to sophomore Ryan Chute while junior J.J. Vandenburg captured the same recognition in the field events. Finally, the men's Bulldog Award was given to junior Alex Best

The Ferris State women's outdoor track and field team placed seventh while the men's squad was 11th in the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Championships (May 4-6) in Midland, Mich. The women's squad finished ninth and the men's team was 10th overall in the GLIAC Indoor Championships (Feb. 25-26) this year at University Center, Mich.

The Bulldogs had a pair of women's All-Americans this spring at the 2011 NCAA Divison II Outdoor Championships (May 26-28) as senior Tina Muir placed fifth in the 10,000 meters and sixth in the 5,000 meters while Pilling came in seventh in the hammer throw at Turlock, Calif.
