Ferris' Arielle Goodson Picks Up Women's Volleyball All-Region Accolades

Ferris State University's Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) has been chosen to the 2009 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division II All-Midwest Region Team as released this Tuesday (Nov. 24) by the AVCA.

Goodson earned all-region accolades for the first time in her career and was among 14 student-athletes to achieve such recognition.  The eight all-region teams were selected as AVCA member head coaches nominated and selected their respective all-region players through a committee process.  The Midwest Region is one of eight regions in the AVCA.  All of the first-team selections from each region will be under consideration for All-America honors.

This season, Goodson was recently named to the 2009 NCAA-II Midwest Regional All-Tournament Team after previously attaining All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First-Team laurels.

The junior middle hitter turned in her most productive campaign this fall as she led Ferris State in kills (376), total blocks (120), block solos (44), and block assists (76) in 30 matches.  The 6-2 Goodson also posted 3.27 kills per set while producing a .244 attack percentage and 38 digs in 115 sets this 2009 season.

In 89 career contests, Goodson has totaled 784 kills in 1,883 attempts for a .224 hitting percentage while averaging 2.41 kills per set and 0.93 blocks a set.  She also has accumulated 302 total blocks on 81 block solos to go with 221 block assists in 325 career sets.

Goodson presently ranks sixth among Ferris State's all-time leaders in block solos, 18th in total blocks, 21st in both kills and block assists, and 29th in attack percentage  

Ferris State made its 15th NCAA Tournament appearance in the program's history this season en route to compiling a 19-12 overall mark.  FSU's record represented the Bulldogs' 12th consecutive winning season.
