Bulldogs Down Michigan Tech 3-1 In Final Regular-Season Road Appearance

The Ferris State University women's volleyball team closed out regular-season road play on a successful note as the Bulldogs produced a .255 hitting percentage en route to a 3-1 victory (25-15, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22) over the Michigan Tech Huskies this Sunday (Oct. 24) afternoon in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division match action at MTU's Student Development Complex Gymnasium in Houghton, Mich.

The Bulldogs claimed the opening two frames by 25-15 and 25-22 scores before Michigan Tech extended the match to a fourth set by winning the third, 25-23.  Ferris State would proceed to claim the win in the fourth set (25-22) despite being outhit by the Huskies .308 to .189 percentage wise.  In the final set, the two teams exchanged points almost all of the way as evidenced by 15 ties and six lead changes.  A pair of kills by senior middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) accounted for the set's final two points and the match win for Ferris State.  

As a result of the triumph, Ferris State improves its overall record to 12-9 and is 8-6 in the GLIAC North Division this season to date.  The Bulldogs have presently prevailed in five of their last eight appearances and ended a two-game losing skid with the league road decision.  Michigan Tech drops to 4-17 overall and 2-12 in the GLIAC's North Division with the loss.

Arielle Goodson and junior outside Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) led the way for Ferris State with 17 and 14 kills, respectively.  Goodson not only tallied match-leading 17 kills, but posted a .412 attack percentage to go along with three service aces and two block assists.  Huntey recorded her eighth double-double of this season as she chalked up 13 digs to go with 14 kills.  Sophomore outside hitter Aly Brecht (Alma) added eight kills as the Bulldogs compiled 56 as a team.

Sophomore setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) was tops among all players in assists with 47 total and also chipped in with seven digs and two block assists.  In the back row, junior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) dug out a match-high 17 attacks by the Huskies while senior libero Dana Ruttle (Reed City) garnered 10 digs.

Michigan Tech was paced by Kristine Sexton's 15 kills while Kasey Woodcock totaled 12 kills and finished with a .308 attack percentage.  The Huskies also had three individuals with double-digit digs totals, which featured Madeline Haben's team-high 13 digs.  

Ferris State will now begin a five-match conference homestand to wrap up the 2010 regular season, starting this upcoming weekend (Oct. 30-31) with two matches against GLIAC South Division teams at FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.  The Bulldogs entertain the Tiffin Dragons this Saturday (Oct. 30) at 2 p.m. (EDT) before going up against the Ohio Dominican Panthers on Sunday (Oct. 31) in a 2 p.m. (EDT) Halloween tilt.
