Win Streak Reaches Three As Bulldogs Sweep Past Ohio Dominican

The Ferris State University women's volleyball team claimed its third consecutive victory as the Bulldogs blitzed Ohio Dominican by a 3-0 margin (28-26, 25-13, 25-20) this Sunday (Oct. 31) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match at FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Bulldogs upped their record to 14-9 overall and 10-6 in the GLIAC's North Division with the three-set triumph in what marked the first-ever meeting between the two schools.  The win also represented Ferris State's eighth win on its home floor in 11 appearances this fall.

Senior middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) was the only player on either team to register double figures in kills with a match-high 14 total.  Sophomore middle hitter Anne Sutton (Grand Rapids/Northview) compiled seven kill in 11 attempts for a .545 attack percentage while junior outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) posted six kills as the Bulldogs turned in a .205 team hitting percentage.

Sophomore setter Samantha Fordyce's (DeWitt) 39 assists represented a match-best performance.  In the backrow, junior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) ended up with a match-leading 21 digs as Ferris State's defense limited Ohio Dominican to only a .061 attack percentage.  The Bulldogs also would notch a 44-27 advantage in kills as 14 FSU players gained playing time.

Anne Sutton was Ferris' top performer in blocks with a block solo and three block assists as the Bulldogs collected six total team blocks.

The match started with the opening set going to 28-26 as FSU outhit the visitors .151 to .093 in the first frame.  The Bulldogs broke a 26-all tie as a result of a Panthers' attack error and then after a ODU timeout, senior middle hitter Danielle Hamilton (Galesburg/Galesburg-Augusta) hammered the set winner on a Samantha Fordyce set.  Arielle Goodson totaled six kills in the set to pace the FSU offensive assault.

In the second set, Ferris State hit for a commendable .310 efficiency while the Bulldogs held the Panthers in check defensively with a .000 attack percentage.  FSU would take a 19-9 lead in the set at one point and ODU would get no closer than nine points for the remainder.

The Bulldogs scored the first five points in the third set and would hold a 12-1 lead en route to tallying a .200 hitting efficiency.  Ohio Dominican was able to get the deficit down to four points at 24-20, but Ferris State freshman outside hitter Kara Hess (Grand Rapids/Grandville) put down a kill for the winning point.  Arielle Goodson's six kills was tops for FSU in the third set.

Ferris State will have three conference home matches this upcoming week, beginning this Wednesday (Nov. 3) against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals.  The GLIAC North Division matchup will get underway at 7 p.m. (EDT) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena on the FSU campus in Big Rapids.
