Women's Volleyball Extends Winning Streak To Six With Regular-Season Finale Triumph

The Ferris State University women's volleyball team closed out its 2010 regular season by winning its sixth consecutive match with a 3-0 triumph (25-21, 25-19, 25-22) versus the Lake Superior State Lakers this Friday (Nov. 5) afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division outing in Big Rapids, Mich.

The victory improves Ferris State's record to 17-9 overall and 13-6 in the GLIAC's North Division.  Furthermore, the Bulldogs have prevailed in their last six contests to date and have won seven of their last nine encounters.  FSU, under 15th-year head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm, has qualified for the 2010 GLIAC Tournament and will play a quarterfinal-round match on Thursday (Nov. 11) against an opponent and site yet to be determined at this particular time.

With the loss, Lake Superior State drops to 6-18 overall and 2-15 in the GLIAC's North Division. 

Ferris State featured two individuals with double-digit kill totals, led by senior middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) and sophomore outside hitter Aly Brecht (Alma).  Goodson hammered a match-leading 20 kills on 31 attempts for an impressive .452 hitting efficiency while Brecht posted 11 kills and turned in a .333 attack proficiency.  Junior outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) supplied nine kills as the Bulldogs tallied 49 as team to the Lakers' 31-match output.  Sophomore setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) paced the offense with 37 assists.

Junior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) paced Ferris State in the backrow by digging up a team-best 14 opposition attack attempts.  Aly Brecht contributed six digs and Ashley Huntey garnered five.  LSSU's Brittany Newberry led all players in the contest with 22 digs.

For the match, Ferris State chalked up a .264 hitting percentage while Lake Superior State turned in a .170 hitting clip. 

The Bulldogs continued to be productive on their home floor by winning their seventh straight match at the Ewigleben Sports Arena and finished the regular season with an 11-3 home ledger.
