Ferris State Volleyball's Arielle Goodson Earns All-America Recognition

Senior Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) has officially joined an elite group of student-athletes in the storied history of the Ferris State University women's volleyball program as she has earned her first American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America honor by garnering second-team recognition. The announcement was made Monday (Nov. 29) by the AVCA.
Goodson, who's a two-time (2009 and 2010) AVCA All-Midwest Region selection, was one of 14 individuals to attain second-team accolades. A first, second, third, and honorable mention squads comprised the 30th annual AVCA All-America teams for NCAA Division II women's volleyball.
With her selection, Goodson becomes the 11th individual to receive All-America laurels and represents the 15th time in which a FSU women's volleyball player has garnered such recognition on a national scale. The last Bulldog to earn such lofty honor was Lindsay Tye, who claimed All-America Second-Team kudos in the 2007 campaign.
A two-time (2009 and 2010) All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First-Team pick, Goodson recently garnered Daktronics, Inc. All-Midwest Region laurels and was named to the 2010 GLIAC All-Tournament Team.
The 6-2 senior middle hitter totaled a career season-best 428 kills for the 2010 campaign and averaged 4.04 kills per set while producing a career single-season high .296 hitting percentage. She notched 97 total blocks on the season, which featured 27 block solos, to go along with a career season-best 30 service aces as a starter in all 27 outings played in. Goodson, a 2008 All-GLIAC Second-Team member, amassed 520 total points for a squad-high 4.91 points per set in 102 total sets this campaign. The two-time (Oct. 11 and 25) GLIAC North Division Player of the Week selection chalked up double-digit kills in 24 matches this season, which included 11 of her last 12 appearances.
In the conference, Goodson finished second on the GLIAC leaders chart in kills (4.04 per set) and was third in points (4.91 per set). Goodson presently ranks ninth among the NCAA-II national statistiscal leaders in points per set (4.91) while being listed 17th in kills per set (4.04) through matches of Nov. 21
Goodson, one of four 2010 team captains, concluded her four-year (2007-10) career at Ferris State ranking third among the program's all-time leaders in block solos (108), ninth in total blocks (399), 12th in kills (1,212), 13th in attack percentage (.248), and 15th in block assists (291). She competed in 116 matches for her career which included 431 sets.
Ferris State turned in its 13th consecutive winning season this fall as the Bulldogs went 18-10 overall with a 13-6 record in the GLIAC's North Division. FSU also made its 13th straight appearance in the GLIAC Tournament this campaign and advanced to the tourney's semifinal round.
