FSU Volleyball Downs Wisconsin-Parkside

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team continued its season-opening winning streak with a 3-1 win over Wisconsin-Parkside (25-14, 15-25, 25-14, 25-16) on Friday (Sept. 2) in the Bulldogs' second and final first-day match of the 2011 Ferris State Invitational.

With the victory, the Bulldogs are now 2-0 overall while Wisconsin-Parkside suffers its second consecutive loss of the 2011 season.

Junior middle hitter Anne Sutton (Grand Rapids/Northview) tallied a match-high 16 kills.  Senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) was not far behind with 11 kills in the match. Junior outside hitter Aly Brecht (Alma) also contributed to the offense with eight kills in the encounter.  

Senior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) led the match in digs with 14 overall. Senior middle hitter Mallory Kopa (Marysville) contributed strongly on the defensive side as well with four block assists in the match.

Ferris State will seek to continue its winning ways this Saturday (Sept. 3) at the Ferris State Invitational with two more non-conference matches within the Ewigleben Sports Arena. The Bulldogs host Southern Indiana in a 12 p.m. (EDT) contest before concluding tournament action at 5 p.m. (EDT) against California (Pa.).
