Ferris Volleyball Sweeps Past Southern Indiana

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team continued their season-opening unbeaten streak while defeating Southern Indiana 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-22) this Saturday (Sept. 3) afternoon in the Ferris State Invitational at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids.

The victory gives the Bulldogs to a 3-0 record for the 2011 season.

 The Bulldogs, who totaled 46 kills in the match, were led by senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey's (Stanwood/Moreley-Stanwood) 16 kills. Huntey was effective in attacking the ball as evidenced by her .375 efficiency percentage. Freshman middle hitter Courtney Rehm (Portage/Central) recorded ten kills in the match.

Rehm was strong defensively as well, claiming a match-high four block assists to contribute to a Ferris total of seven blocks against Southern Indiana.

Junior outside hitter Aly Brecht (Alma), senior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) and  Huntey each tallied eight digs in the match. Junior setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) passed out 41 assist of the team's 44 total helpers.

Ferris State will conclude tournament play this Saturday (Sept. 4) in a 5 p.m. (EDT) tilt against California (Pa.), who is currently 3-0 in Ferris State Invitational action, at the Ewigleben Sports Arena.
