Ferris State Finishes 4-0 In Its Own Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team remained undefeated and posted its fourth consecutive win to conclude the 2011 Ferris State Invitational with a perfect mark on Saturday evening (Sept. 3) as the Bulldogs registered a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-17) win over California (Pa.) at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

The win brings Ferris State to an overall record of 4-0 on the season to date after the opening weekend of action.

Senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) led the match in kills with 13 total for the night. Junior middle hitter Anne Sutton (Grand Rapids/Northview) and freshman middle hitter Courtney Rehm (Portage/Central) both contributed to the offense with 10 and nine kills, respectively.

Junior setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) accounted for 31 assists that contributed to the team total of 36 helpers for the match.  Meanwhile, senior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) had a match-leading 21 digs for the Bulldogs.

Playing strong defensively, freshman middle hitter Courtney Rehm posted seven blocks to add to a team total of 12 blocked shots on the match.

The Bulldogs will begin Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play next Friday (Sept. 9) with a road game against the Michigan Tech Huskies slated for a 7 p.m. (EDT) start time in Houghton, Mich.
