Ferris State Volleyball Downs Northwood

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team swept past Northwood in a 3-0 decision (25-14, 25-17, 25-7) on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 18) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

The win brings the Bulldogs to an overall record of 8-1 and a GLIAC North Division record of 4-1 on the year. Ferris State is currently undefeated at home, and on a three-match win streak. Northwood's overall record drops to 4-6 and 2-3 in the GLIAC.

Senior middle hitter Anne Sutton (Grand Rapids/Northview) led the Bulldog offense with 10 kills on 16 attempts in the match. Sutton finished the match with an impressive .625 kill percentage. Senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) contributed eight kills to the team total of 39. The Bulldogs finished with a team kill percentage of .429.

Senior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) paced Ferris State in the back row by digging up a match-best 11 opposition attack attempts. Junior setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) tallied 23 assists, contributing to a team total of 36 helpers.

The net was highly protected by the Bulldogs having a total of eight blocks, opposed to Northwood's three. Huntey contributed half of the team total with four solo blocks.

The first and third set was dominated by the Bulldogs for the entirety. However, the second set saw four tie scores and two lead changes.

Ferris State continues to play at home next weekend against three GLIAC teams. The Findlay Oilers will make the trip to Big Rapids on Friday (Sept. 23) with a 12 p.m. (EDT) start time. FSU hosts the Hillsdale Chargers on Saturday (Sept. 24) and the Wayne State Warriors will be facing the Bulldogs on Sunday (Sept. 25), both with a 2 p.m. (EDT) start time. All weekend action will take place at the Ewigleben Sports Arena.
