FSU Prevails Over Hillsdale in a 3-0 Decision

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball program swept yet another Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent as the Bulldogs downed the Hillsdale Chargers 3-0 (25-18, 28-26, 25-20) this Saturday (Sept. 24) in a battle of nationally-ranked teams at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids.

The win improved the Bulldogs overall record to 10-1, and FSU currrently holds a 6-1 mark in GLIAC's North Division. Ferris State continues to find success when playing at home as the Bulldogs are now 9-0 thus far in the 2011 campaign. Hillsdale, which was ranked 10th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll, dropped to an overall record of 9-2 and a GLIAC ledger of 6-1.

The first set was dominated by the 23rd-ranked Bulldogs as there were no lead changes or tie scores. The second set saw seven tie scores and three lead changes. In the third set, the Bulldogs led for the majority and the set was tied five times.

The Bulldogs totaled 36 kills in the three-set match with senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) claiming 15 of those kills.  Huntey led Ferris State in kills and was the only Bulldog player to reach a double-digit number in successful attacks.  Huntey also reached double digits in digs with 13 for the match.

Junior setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) led the Bulldogs with 33 of the team's 34 assists.  She also played aggressively at the net and had three block solos in the second set. Senior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) had a team-best 14 digs in the match.

Ferris State had 11 total blocks in the match with three Bulldogs registering multiple blocks.

The FSU women's volleyball team will continue home play this Sunday (Sept. 25) as they try to defeat the Wayne State Warriors in a 2 p.m. (EDT) league match at the Ewigleben Sports Arena. Sunday marks "Youth Group Day" and will feature giveaway's from the FSU Athletic Department, PT Plus and Powerhouse Student Ministries.
