Ferris Tops GVSU For Eighth-Straight Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team kept its impressive win streak alive as the nationally 17th-ranked Bulldogs posted a 3-0 road triumph over archrival Grand Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 2) afternoon in Allendale, Mich.

The Bulldogs won their eighth consecutive match and all eight have came by identical 3-0 decisions in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) competition.

Sunday's match was FSU's first encounter on the road since opening the eight-match stretch with a shutout win over GVSU at the Ewigleben Sports Complex in Big Rapids on Sept. 14.

Bulldog senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey paced Ferris State with a match-high 16 kills in Sunday's victory.  She also added five digs.

The Bulldogs also received 10 kills and five digs from junior middle hitter Anne Sutton while junior setter Samantha Fordyce had 38 assists. 

Abby Aiken paced the Lakers with 15 kills.  Clair Ruhenkamp netted 40 assists and Lyndsey Holt chipped in with 11 digs.

Ferris State totaled 41 kills and hit .294 for the match.  The Bulldogs also compiled 46 digs.

On the opposite side, GVSU posted 45 kills and 42 digs, but the Lakers hit only .195 for the afternoon.

Ferris attacked the ball particulary well in the first and third sets with a .348 and .368 figure in each frame, respectively.

With the victory, the Bulldogs improved to 13-1 overall and 9-1 in GLIAC play.  Grand Valley State dropped to 7-7 overall and 4-6 in conference action.

The Bulldogs hit the road later this week as they travel to Ohio to face Lake Erie and Ashland.  Friday's (Oct. 7) league match at Lake Erie starts at 7 p.m. (ET) in Painesville, Ohio, with Saturday's (Oct. 8) GLIAC tilt at Ashland set for a 2 p.m. (ET) start in Ashland, Ohio.
