Ferris State Volleyball Posts Another Shutout

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 11th-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team kept its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win streak alive by blanking Lake Erie in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-11) decision this Friday (Oct. 7) night in Painesville, Ohio.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve their record to 14-1 overall and 10-1 in GLIAC play. Ferris State is currently on a nine-match winning streak and has yet to lose a set since their lone loss of the year on the road at Northern Michigan back on Sept. 11. Lake Erie fell to 2-9 overall and 1-8 in the GLIAC.

The shutout win was FSU's 13th victory of the year by a 3-0 margin.

Junior outside hitter Aly Brecht (Alma) led the Bulldog offense with a match-high nine kills in the contest and finished with a .318 kill percentage. The Bulldogs totaled 28 kills in the three-set match.

Junior setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) accumulated 21 helpers in the match and has totaled an impressive 523 assists thus far in the 2011-12 season. Senior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) was the only player in the match to reach a double-digit dig count with 13 on the night.

Ferris State played strong defensively as well as the Bulldogs had 11 blocks in the match compared to Lake Erie's four total blocks. Junior middle hitter Anne Sutton (Grand Rapids/Northville) led the defensive play with a combined five blocks. Sutton tallied two block solos and three block assists.

The match was tied nine times and featured three lead changes. The second set was tied for times, but the Bulldogs never trailed in earning the win.

FSU is currently midst a three-week road stretch as the Bulldogs do not play at hom again until Oct. 22 in Big Rapids.

Ferris State continues GLIAC action on Saturday (Oct. 8) against the Ashland Eagles with match time set for 2 p.m. (ET) in Ashland, Ohio.
