Bulldog Volleyball Extends Win Streak To 10

Big Rapids, Mich. - Two Ferris State University women's volleyball players notched double-digit kills to contribute to the Bulldogs' 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 27-25) sweep over the Ashland Eagles this Saturday (Oct. 8) afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) match.

With the win, the nationally 11th-ranked Bulldogs improved to 15-1 overall, including a 11-1 record in the GLIAC. Their record includes a current 10-match winning streak and the Bulldogs have not lost a set in the stretch. Ashland fell to 9-5 overall and 7-3 in the GLIAC with the loss.

The Bulldog offense was led by senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey  (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood), who had a team-high 14 kills in the match with an attack percentage of .379 for the day. Junior middle hitter Anne Sutton (Grand Rapids/Northview) tallied 11 kills, which helped contribute to Ferris State's 43 total kills.

Three Bulldogs supplied double-digit digs in the sweep. Sophomore setter Brandie Merren (Hopkins) led the dig count with 17 overall. Huntey tallied 14 and senior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) had 12 digs. Junior setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) assisted 41 of the team's total 42 helpers.

Ferris State played strong defensively with seven blocks compared to Ashland's three. Freshman middle hitter Courtney Rehm  (Portage/Central) contributed five total blocks with one block solo and four block assists.

The Bulldogs will travel to Aurora, Ill., next weekend (Oct 14-15) to compete in the Mizuno GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament.  Pairings have yet to be announced.
