Bulldogs Complete Weekend Road Sweep With Win At SVSU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team wrapped up its two-match weekend road swing with a 3-1 victory over Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Nov. 3) afternoon in Univ. Center, Mich.

The Bulldogs captured the match 25-23, 25-17, 24-26, 26-24 over the Cardinals as they increased their overall record to 21-6 on the year along with 14-2 in GLIAC play.

Saginaw Valley State fell to 11-17 overall and 6-10 in the GLIAC with the loss to the Bulldogs.

Senior middle hitter Anne Sutton and sophomore outside hitter Courtney Rehm both tallied 14 kills apiece in the Bulldog victory.  Additionally, FSU received seven kills along with a team-high 17 digs from senior outside hitter Aly Brecht.

Senior setter Samantha Fordyce coordinated the action for the Bulldogs as she racked up 41 assists and added 12 digs in the winning cause.  Meanwhile, junior libero Brandie Merren posted 14 digs while senior defensive specialist Paige Wyers notched 16 digs for FSU as four players totaled 10 digs or more in the contest.

The Bulldogs posted a .189 attack percentage with 48 kills and 18 errors on 159 attempts.  Additionally, FSU recorded 75 digs, 10 blocks and six service aces with seven errors at the service line.

On the Saginaw Valley State side, Kate Czopek totaled a match-high 17 kills and Lyndsay Reynolds contributed 14 on the day.  Makenzie Frodle also chipped in with 11 kills.

Defensively, the Cardinals received 23 digs from Laurel Mattson with Brooke Tiller netting 17 digs, Megan Jones posting 13 digs and Czopek finishing with 12 digs.  Sam Breault had 44 assists and nine digs in the setback.

SVSU had a .146 attack percentage as the Cardinals totaled 56 kills and 31 errors on 171 attempts.  They also had 88 digs, nine blocks and five aces to go with nine service errors in the encounter.

The Bulldogs will return home to the Ewigleben Sports Arena to host Hillsdale and Northwood in their final two regular-season matches next weekend.  FSU hosts Hillsdale on Friday (Nov. 9) at 7 p.m. (ET) followed by a Saturday (Nov. 10) afternoon tilt with league leader Northwood beginning at 3 p.m. (ET).

Northwood currently holds a two-match lead over the Bulldogs in the North Division as the Timberwolves are 16-0 in league play.  According to the league tiebreaker formula, the Bulldogs need two wins next weekend combined with two NU losses to tie for the divisional crown.  In that event, the Bulldogs would own the tiebreaker over Northwood for the number one seed in the GLIAC Tournament.
