#4 Ferris State Volleyball Finishes Unbeaten On Ohio Trip With Win Over Storm

Big Rapids, Mich. - Yet another quick start led to victory for the nationally fourth-ranked Ferris State University volleyball squad as the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 sweep over Lake Erie on Saturday (Oct. 10) to wrap up a weekend trip in Painesville, Ohio.

The Bulldogs rolled to a 25-18, 25-13, 25-20 triumph over the host Storm as FSU improved to 17-1 overall and stayed unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at 9-0 this campaign.

Ferris State received 15 kills from senior outside hitter Megan Vander Meer, who added 12 digs in a double-double showing for the Bulldogs. In addition to Vander Meer, senior outside hitter Alexis Huntey chipped in 10 kills in the win for FSU.

The Bulldogs hit an impressive .336 on the day and came up with 47 kills to go with only 10 attack errors. FSU also compiled 54 digs with 44 assists, six aces, three solo blocks and two assisted blocks in the match. Overall, Ferris State had 13 service errors.

Along with Vander Meer and Huntey, FSU received seven kills from senior middle hitter Caroline Heitzman and six from sophomore middle Ayanna Buckley. Junior libero Danielle Dowd managed 12 digs and Huntey came up with nine while junior setter Stephanie Sikorski compiled 37 assists.

Lake Erie was held to a .113 attack figure on 24 kills with 13 errors. The Storm totaled 47 digs, 23 assists, four solo blocks and two aces to go with two service errors.

Leondra Barrett paced Lake Erie with nine kills while Crystal Kedroske had 14 digs. Lake Erie dropped to 5-10 overall and 1-8 in the GLIAC with the setback.

Ferris State will take part in the GLIAC/GLVC Regional Crossover on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16-17, in Aurora, Ill. Official pairings will be announced by the respective league offices prior to Monday.
