#6 Ferris State Volleyball Pulls Out Hard-Fought Road Victory At Davenport

Big Rapids, Mich. - Nationally sixth-ranked Ferris State Volleyball remained perfect in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play as the Bulldogs topped Davenport 3-2 on Friday (Sept. 28) night in Grand Rapids.

FSU won its eighth-straight league match and improved to 13-3 overall this year by beating the Panthers inside the DU Student Center.

Ferris State stormed out to the early lead by winning the first two frames 25-21 and 25-22 before DU rallied with a 25-19 win in the third followed by a 25-14 triumph in the fourth. However, in the deciding set, the Bulldogs prevailed 15-13 to garner the road win.

Sophomore Katie O'Connell tallied a team-leading 17 kills in the victory with middle hitter Mekayla Carey adding 13 kills. Junior Courtney Brewer added 11 overall.

FSU also received 47 assists from junior setter Maeve Grimes to go with 18 digs from senior libero Katie Placek. Junior Allyson Cappel had 13 digs, O'Connell contributed 12 and Carey had 11 while Kayla Rosman notched 10 for FSU.

The Bulldogs were limited to a .132 attack figure, but came up with 79 digs. FSU also had 10 block assists and three solo hits at the net.

Davenport compiled a .172 attack figure and was led by Hayley Kreiger with 13 kills. Jenn Kay Vander Meer added 12 kills and had 15 digs while Kasey Stehouwer totaled a match-high 23 digs in the losing effort.

Ferris State will visit rival Grand Valley State on Saturday (Sept. 29) for a 4 p.m. (ET) league match in Allendale.
