Muir Wins As FSU Runs At GLIAC Championships
Linwood, Mich. – Ferris State University junior
Tina Muir captured the individual title in leading
the Bulldog women’s cross country team to a runner-up finish
in the 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)
Championships held on Saturday (Oct. 24) at the Maple Leaf Golf
Course in Linwood, Mich.
Muir completed the 6K women’s race in a time of 21:20.2 to
finish 13 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher Megan
Maceratini of Grand Valley State in the field of 137 runners. The
victory was Muir’s fourth in as many races this fall.
The Bulldogs totaled 67 teams in the team standings while earning
league runner-up accolades behind champion GVSU, which finished
with 20 points. Hillsdale took third place (85 points) with Ashland
fourth (112) and Findlay fifth (161) among the 12 competing
women’s teams. The Bulldog women had all five scoring runners
finish among the top 20 scoring competitors and the top 30
finishers overall.
Meanwhile, the Bulldog men’s team ran to a fifth-place
finish with 153 points in the 11-team race. GVSU also won the
men’s division with 21 points followed by Saginaw Valley
State (53), Hillsdale (90) and Wayne State (117) in the top
four.
In the women’s race, Muir finished ahead of a pack of seven
Laker runners in the second through eighth positions to earn
All-GLIAC First Team recognition. FSU freshman Alyssa
Osika came in 13th overall for FSU (22:26.7) and claimed
All-GLIAC Second Team accolades.
Bulldog junior Megan Josey took 23rd place
(22:49.1), freshman Anna Rudd was 26th (22:53.4)
and junior Paige Onweller placed 27th (22:56.0).
Freshman Shelby Janutol came in 38th (23:23.1),
junior Sarah Creed was 59th (23:55.0), freshman
Felicia Peacock placed 70th (24:20.6) and freshman
Jordan McGuire took 75th place (24:34.2).
The Ferris men’s team was led by sophomore Tyler
Crossman, who attained All-GLIAC Second Team kudos by
finishing 12th in the field of 144 men’s runners in the 8K
race with a time of 25:20.0 at the GLIAC Championships.
Freshman Alex Bladecki finished 33rd overall
(26:10.3), junior Alex Best placed 41st (26:24.8),
sophomore Steve Neshkoff ran to a 43rd-place
performance (26:26.1) and senior Brian Reynolds
wound up 54th (26:35.7).
FSU freshman Josh Kyser was 68th (26:56.0)
followed by freshman Michael Shulte in 71st place
(27:01.1) and senior Curtis Begley at 73rd overall
(27:02.9). Freshman Andrew Campbell placed 96th
(27:32.5), freshman Ryan Chute was 113th
(28:12.4), junior Derek Childs finished 121st
(28:35.2) and freshman Michael Moy came in 140th
(30:54.7).
Both Bulldog teams will next take part in the 2009 NCAA-II Midwest
Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 7, in Kenosha, Wis.
