FSU Cross Country Runs Well In Wisconsin

Kenosha, Wis. – The Ferris State University cross country teams came out of their final tune-up before the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships with successful results on Saturday (Oct. 10) at the Wisconsin-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational held in Kenosha, Wis.

The Bulldog women’s squad won the team championship in the 5K event by placing four runners among the top 20 scoring individuals overall to finish with 60 points. DePaul came in second (93) followed by Marquette (97), Eastern Illinois (124) and the University of Chicago (134) in the top five as FSU finished ahead of the four NCAA Division I programs.

Meanwhile, the Bulldog men’s team placed fourth in its field with 108 points behind champion Wayne State (38), Augsburg (73) and DePaul (75). The men’s field included 19 teams with 20 teams taking part in the women’s competition.

The races featured schools from all three NCAA divisions along with NAIA programs.

Individually, Bulldog junior Tina Muir continued her strong performance for the women’s team by winning the individual title with a time of 17:45.8 on the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course at Wisconsin-Parkside. The women’s race featured 176 runners. Muir took the lead prior to the 2K mark and held off former Wisconsin-Parkside runner Jessica Monson, who placed second nearly 16 seconds behind.

FSU freshman Anna Rudd came in eighth overall (18:34.9), freshman Alyssa Osika took 17th place (18:52.9), junior Megan Josey was 24th (19:15.5), junior Paige Onweller came in 27th (19:18.9) and freshman Shelby Janutol finished 29th (19:20.0) in the race. Bulldog junior Sarah Creed wound up 42nd (19:38.7), freshman Jordan McGuire took 54th (19:56.1), freshman Felicia Peacock placed 63rd (20:03.8) and freshman Avery Larson came in 75th (20:16.9) for the Bulldogs. Sophomore Elizabeth Troost also ran and was 139th (22:06.7) in the field.

On the men’s side, the Bulldogs were paced by sophomore Tyler Crossman, who was eighth overall (26:10.7) among 193 runners competing in the 8K men’s division. Sophomore Steve Neshkoff placed 24th (26:51.0), freshman Alex Bladecki was 29th (26:56.7), junior Alex Best took 30th (27:00.6) and freshman Ryan Chute came in 48th (27:22.4).

Bulldog freshman Josh Kyser took 54th place (27:28.8) followed by senior Brian Reynolds in 56th place (27:34.0). Freshman Michael Shulte was 68th overall (27:44.3), freshman Andrew Campbell placed 87th (28:07.3), junior Derek Childs wound up 102nd (28:23.4) and senior Curtis Begley came in 114th (28:42.3). Freshman Michael Moy took 155th (30:18.5) in the field.

The Ferris women’s cross country team is ranked fourth while the men’s team is eighth in the latest United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Midwest Regional Rankings. FSU’s women are ranked 21st nationally.

The Bulldogs will compete in the GLIAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 24, in University Center, Mich.
