FSU To Compete At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Saturday (Nov. 6) in Hillsdale, Mich.

The annual conference championships will be hosted by Hillsdale College on its new cross country course.

The women's 6K championship race will begin at 11 a.m. (ET) with the men's 8K event to follow at approximately 11:45 a.m. (ET).

The Ferris women's cross country team is ranked ninth in the latest United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II National Rankings along with third in the Midwest Regional listing under third-year head coach Steve Picucci.

Last season, the Bulldog women placed second and the men were fifth at the league championships (10/24) in Linwood, Mich.  The Bulldog women's squad went on to advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships (11/21) and placed 11th in Evansville, Ind.

FSU senior Tina Muir (St. Albans, U.K.) figures to be one of the top individual contenders in the women's field. A year ago, Muir took 12th place overall for the second-straight year at the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championships in earning All-America honors for the second consecutive campaign.  Muir was last year's regional champion and GLIAC Runner of the Year.

Tickets prices for Saturday's GLIAC Championships are $5 for adults and $2 for students. Children ages 12 and under are admitted to the meet free of charge. Spectators will be able to park at the site of the course. Each carload of people will be charged $5 for parking.

An open race will also take place at 12:30 p.m. (ET) with the men and women running simultaneously. The awards ceremony will take place at 1:15 p.m. (ET) or after the conclusion of the open race.

Following the GLIAC Championships, FSU will compete in the 2010 NCAA-II Midwest Regional set for Saturday, Nov. 20, in Louisville, Ky.  The NCAA Division II National Championships will also be held in Louisville on Saturday, Dec. 4.
