FSU's Johnson Earns GLIAC Honor This Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University sophomore runner Samantha Johnson (Troy) has picked up this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week Award.

Johnson paced the Bulldogs at the Penn State National meet last Friday (Oct. 14) in State College, Pa. She took ninth place for FSU on the 6K course in a time of 21:40 as the Bulldogs finished eighth overall in a largely Division I field without their top runner in senior Tina Muir. The sophomore runner was the only non-Division I runner to place among the top 15 overall in the competition.

The Bulldog women took eighth place in the meet with 308 points at the PSU Golf Course under a driving rain and muddy conditions. The Ferris State women are ranked third in the NCAA Division II National Rankings and first in the Midwest Region.

Ferris State will compete in the GLIAC Championships this Saturday, Oct. 22, in Ashland, Ohio.
