FSU's Tina Muir The GLIAC Runner Of Year

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University senior women's cross country runner Tina Muir (St. Albans, U.K.) was recently tabbed as the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Runner of the Year after her performance at the league championships.

Muir claimed the league's top award for the second time in her collegiate career by winning the GLIAC's individual crown and helping FSU to a runner-up finish at the GLIAC Championships on Oct. 22 in Ashland, Ohio.

Muir finished the 6K course in a time of 21:18.60 to win the 119-runner event by nearly 20 seconds. This was the second GLIAC individual championship for the two-time regional champion as Muir won both the conference and regional crowns in 2009.

Muir placed 11th nationally at the 2010 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships as an individual in leading FSU to an eighth-place team performance, which tied for the highest finish in school history.  She also earned All-America honors for the third consecutive year and won the NCAA-II Midwest Regional individual title for the second-straight campaign.

Muir received United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region "Runner of the Year" honors in 2010 and is both a four-time All-GLIAC honoree and all-academic team selection.

Ferris State was ranked sixth nationally in the latest USTFCCCA rankings and is second in the Midwest Region.

FSU will host the NCAA-II Midwest Regional Championships this Saturday (Nov. 5) at FSU's Katke Golf Course.  The women's 6K race gets underway at 11 a.m. (ET) with the men's 10K event set to begin at 12 p.m. (ET).
