Ferris State Cross Country Sweeps GLIAC Awards As Haynes & Hammer Are Honored

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams swept the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Athlete of the Week awards as two Bulldog student-athletes claimed the league's weekly distinction following impressive performances last week.

Senior runner Emily Haynes (Napoleon) was chosen as the GLIAC's Female Runner of the Week with junior Logan Hammer (Evart) tabbed on the men's side for the conference award as chosen by a coaches' committee.

Haynes placed ninth overall in a time of 22:28.4 on the 6K women's course last Friday (Sept. 25) in leading the Bulldog women to a first-place team finish at the 2015 Brissman/Lundeen Cross Country Invitational hosted by Augustana in Rock Island, Ill.

Meanwhile, Hammer recorded a top 10 finish for the Bulldogs as the junior placed seventh in the 8K men's race in a time of 24:57.6. The FSU men finished seventh in the event at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island.

A total of 50 teams competed in both the respective men's and women's races with nearly 600 student-athletes racing in each field.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Oct. 10 with action at a pair of meets including the Lewis Crossover in Romeoville, Ill., along with the Northwood Invitational in Midland.
