Ferris State's Katie Etelamaki Earns Cross Country All-America Honors For Second-Straight Year

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the second consecutive year, Ferris State University women's cross country runner Katie Etelamaki (Ishpeming/Westwood) earned All-America honors at the NCAA Division II National Championships, which took place on Saturday (Nov. 23) in Sacramento, Calif.

Etelamaki competed individually at the national championships and placed 38th overall in the race, posting a 23-second personal best and notching the second-fastest time in school history at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course located at Haggin Oaks. Overall, she clocked 20:57.1 in the 6K race.

A senior, Etelamaki was among six individual qualifiers selected to compete in the national championships from the Midwest Region. In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals had to qualify in their respective NCAA regional competitions.

The championships were hosted by California State University, Sacramento and the Sacramento Sports Commission.

This season, Etelamaki previously earned all-region recognition with an 11th-place individual finish in a time of 21:18.8 in the D2 Midwest Regional Championships on the 6K course at Angel Mounds in Evansville, Ind.

Last year, Etelamaki also earned All-America accolades at the national championships when placed 16th overall in the 2018 NCAA Division II National Championships held in Pittsburgh.
